AAVrg-Synapsin-Cre is a ready-to-use recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) packaged in the engineered retrograde serotype AAVrg (AAV2-retro), which contains the AAVrg capsid and AAV2 inverted terminal repeats (ITRs). This vector expresses Cre recombinase under the control of the human Synapsin promoter, enabling neuron-specific transgene expression.
AAVrg is an engineered AAV serotype with enhanced retrograde transport properties, allowing efficient transduction of neurons that project to the site of vector administration. As a result, AAVrg-Synapsin-Cre is widely used for neuronal circuit tracing, neural connectivity mapping, and Cre-dependent genetic manipulation of defined neuronal populations in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
