AAV(2-GEC)-CMV-mCherry is a pre-packaged recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vector packaged in the engineered AAV2-GEC serotype (capsid derived from AAV2-GEC with AAV2 inverted terminal repeats, ITRs). The vector drives robust expression of the red fluorescent protein mCherry under the control of the CMV immediate-early promoter, enabling strong, constitutive expression in a wide range of mammalian cells.

AAV2-GEC is an engineered capsid developed through directed evolution to achieve highly specific and efficient gene delivery to glomerular endothelial cells (GECs) within the kidney. By targeting the glomerular filtration barrier, this serotype enables localized transduction of renal microvascular endothelium following systemic administration. In preclinical studies, AAV2-GEC has demonstrated effective gene transfer to glomerular endothelial cells and has been successfully applied in mouse models of anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) glomerulonephritis.

Supplied in a ready-to-use format, AAV(2-GEC)-mCherry is suitable for both in vitro and in vivo applications, including fluorescent labeling of transduced cells, evaluation of kidney-targeted delivery, assessment of transduction efficiency, and optimization of experimental conditions. Because it expresses only a reporter gene and no therapeutic payload, it is commonly used as a control vector to distinguish delivery-related effects from gene-specific biological outcomes.
